Keep Disney from having a speaking Trump robot in the Hall of Presidents

The values embodied in the Disney brand are antithetical to those of Donald Trump.

Disney provides entertainment that can be enjoyed by the whole family, including and especially young children.  Disney values include family, imagination, accessibility, and diversity.  Disney World is the self-proclaimed “happiest place on earth,” and while they sell a variety of goods and services, the unifying factor in everything they sell is happiness.

Disney has a robust commitment to ensuring that their parks are accessible and accommodating to all disabled guests.  Disney has been hosting “Gay Days” since 1991 for LGBT families, and supported same sex marriage in the Courts.  Disney is committed to female empowerment.  This can be seen in movies like Frozen, Moana, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as many live action re-imaginings of classic Disney Princesses.

Donald Trump on the other hand openly mocked a disabled reporter, has said that Mexicans coming to America are rapists, and that Muslims should be banned from entering the United States.  He is alleged to have committed numerous sexual assaults, and has even said on video that he “grabs [women] by the pussy”.

Disney is presently in the process of removing sexist elements of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which it has done before (previously removing pirates chasing women, and replacing it with women chasing the pirates, pirates chasing food, pirates chasing each other).  It seems irrational to remove sexist Audio Animatronics from one ride, only to then turn around and add them to another.

The Disney brand should not associate itself with misogyny, homophobia, or racism.  How will Mexican, Muslim, and LGBT families and their young children feel after seeing and hearing Donald Trump in the Hall of Presidents?  The Disney Parks encourage families to make memories they can cherish, but the memories will be tarnished for these families by the inclusion of Donald Trump.  Many regular visitors to the park will have their experience diminished.  His appearance will provide a moment of sadness or fear, an unhappy speed bump, in what Disney wants to be a day of joy and laughter.  A day at Disney will be unforgettable, but not in the way that the Disney corporation wants it to be.

The Hall of Presidents is more than anything about visionary leadership throughout American history.  Each president is represented in the ways in which he was most presidential.  Donald Trump has proven time and time again on his Twitter feed that he is incapable of acting presidential.

With this petition we humbly request that Disney do not allow the Donald Trump Audio Animatronic robot do deliver a speech of any kind in the Hall of Presidents attraction.  We believe that this is a reasonable request, especially considering that Trumps administration has editorial control over the speech the Audio Animatronic will deliver.  We encourage Disney to pick a non-controversial president, such as George Washington or Abraham Lincoln, or literally any other appropriate American historical figure, to deliver the main address at the end of the Hall of Presidents show, at least until the Trump presidency is over.

This petition has nothing to do with partisanship, as many families on both sides of the political spectrum disagree with Donald Trump’s behavior and values.   Disney CEO Bob Iger left Trumps advisory council after Trump pulled the US from the Paris Climate Agreement.  Trump’s party affiliation is not motivating this petition.  It is the man himself and his behavior which makes him unworthy of not only the presidency but also a voice in the Disney Hall of Presidents.

Please listen to your customers and continue to maintain the values that your brand claims to represent.
