Walt Disney, one of the most infuential people in the world of animation once said "you don't have to worry about money, it will take care of itself. Just do your best work and then try to trump it." He was a risktaker, he liked challanges and believed in the magic of animation. What do you think his reaction would be when learning that the company he founded with his brother now has more than enough money to bring to life any ideas one can imagine, and yet chooses to make cashgrabs?

After Moana came out in 2016, Walt Disney animation studios has only made TWO animated movies, both of which were sequels (Ralph breaks the internet in 2018 and Frozen 2 in 2019). Instead of making animated movies, the studio seems to be focusing on making live action remakes of their older movies, and they don't plan on stopping either.

Live action remakes are a disgrace. There is no reason for them to exist other than easy money because nostalgia is easy to sell. They don't add anything good to the stories, but they do take away the personality, the soul, the magic of these stories by taking away one of the things that made these movies so special; the animation. I'm not saying live action is bad by default and that Disney shouldn't be allowed to make live action movies, but some stories work better in animation, and what a surprise: the stories of animated disney movies fall into that category! Walt Disney pictures can make movies if they want to, but animated stories should stay animated.

Animation has always been important to me. It is an art form that unfortunately rarely gets treated as one. It makes me sad to see the industry in the state it is right now, where the people responsible for it don't seem to care about animation at all. A good animated movie made with love is magic, and I don't want to only be able to experience it by watching movies I've already seen, because people who have the power to make new ones couldn't care less, and those who do, don't have enough resources.

If Disney doesn't want to create animated movies anymore, maybe they should say so and give their crown to someone who can handle the responsibility of leading an industry. Or even better, destroy the crown and make other studios fight for a new one by making better animated movies and moving the industry forward.
