For 36 years, the Star Wars Expanded Universe has churned out numerous books, video games, toys, comics, and other things that many Star Wars fans have enjoyed. We Star Wars fans were introduced to many terrific characters such as Grand Admiral Thrawn, Mara Jade, Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo, Ben Skywalker, Natasi Daala, Gilad Pellaeon, Kyp Durron, Corran Horn, Kyle Katarn, and so many others. In addition, we were introduced to many great worlds in the Expanded Universe as well such as Korriban, Ziost, Manaan, Taris, Onderon, Malachor V, Zonoma Sekot, Dorin, Dathomir, Dromund Kaas, Bakura, Raxus Prime, Byss, Kuat, and so many others. In April 2014, it was announced that all of the Star Wars Expanded Universe books would be considered non-canon and renamed Star Wars Legends. Moreover, the old Star Wars Legends video games, books, comics, toys, and other things would be discontinued.
Since then a new stream of Star Wars books have been published and counted as canon not to mention some other things that have been created to fill the hole where the original Expanded Universe used to be. Some people may like a clean slate for the Star Wars Expanded Universe, but those of us who are familiar with the old Star Wars universe are not fond of this change. Although we don't like the nullification of the Expanded Universe, we would at least want the books, toys, video games, and comics to continue being made. Despite the confusion that two streams of Star Wars books would bring, I feel that the old books, video games, comics, and toys should be continued for two reasons. Firstly, if we don't like what's happening with the new Star Wars movies and books we have an alternative stream of books to read from not to mention an alternate line of video games to play. Secondly, Disney would have a higher income of money for two streams of books and two lines of video games.
With the loyalty of Star Wars fans who would buy both canon and non-canon video games and books, Disney's income would double if not triple or more. As Han Solo said in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi when he was being taken away by Jabba's guards, "You're throwing away a fortune here, Jabba! Don't be a fool!" Indeed, Disney would be throwing away a fortune if it lets the old Expanded Universe remain discontinued. In conclusion, we must have the Star Wars Expanded Universe (Legends) books, video games, toys, and comics continued for the sake of Star Wars and all of its fans!
