Debuting in 1976, few other shows on network television can compare to the joy, originality and creative spirit of The Muppet Show. Despite concluding its initial run in 1981, the complete series of 5 seasons with a total of 120 episodes has only been released in incomplete and infrequent fits and spurts to Muppet fans over the past two decades, and yet there is no publically available collection of the complete The Muppet Show series. The closest fans have ever gotten to owning the series was in the mid-90s when Time Life and The Jim Henson Company released a 10-volume “Best of” collection, and from 2005-2008 when the first three seasons were released by Buena Vista Home Entertainment. The fourth and fifth seasons were inexplicably never released as part of the same collection. 

Muppet-based shows have come (Muppets Now) and gone (ABC’s The Muppets, Muppets Tonight) over the years, yet each incarnation of a Muppets program has always hearkened back to the hilarity, insanity and heart of the original Muppet Show. It’s time to introduce the timelessness of The Muppet Show to a new generation of youth and grown-ups alike. 

By signing this petition, We, the fans of Jim Henson and The Muppets, will send a strong, clear message to The Walt Disney Company that simply coming up with new Muppet programs and releasing the incomplete series over 10 years ago does little to diminish our collective love and nostalgia for The Muppet Show, the show that first introduced us to zany and crazy world of Kermit and the gang.
