The second amendment has held as a symbol of freedom of defence in the United States. however formed in 1791 it has become outdated, the amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infirnged." yet people have used this as a tool of harm and hatred, with innocent people dying every day because a person got their hands on an assault rifle. This has to stop. The common argument is that people need self defence, but a pistol is all that is necessary for defence, and usually accidental gunfire is a higher threat in a firearm owning household than an armed criminal. my ideal right is to own a hunting rifle, self defence pistol, and weapon passed down to you. with extensive background and license checks. a common person does not require a .50 calibre rifle to defend themself from a criminal. at most you need a pistol. over 40,000 innocent people have lost their lives this year to gun violence, if you could please help me downsize the second amendment, I will be forver greatful, thank you.
