There are aggressive (and therefore dangerous) dogs on The UWI St. Augustine campus. So far efforts to control the problem have proven to be ineffective. At this point, there needs to be some administrative controls put in place to protect at risk staff members.

There are possible solutions, the main one being making the shuttle bus available at the gate at regular intervals to any staff who feels unsafe walking into campus because of the presence of dangerous dogs.

One person has already been a victim of the dogs, having been bitten. The people who are at the most risk are the ones who have to walk into campus. Unfortunately we have some staff members who clearly have never been attacked that have decided to feed the dogs to ensure they remain around. A second solution therefore is to fine any staff member observed feeding the dogs so that we can pay a professional dog catcher to remove these dogs from the facility and make any infrastructural repairs necessary to prevent the dogs regaining access to the campus.

Please do not penalise staff members for showing up to work by not doing everything that is possible to make campus a safe space. Thank you.
