Tabytha Graves started this petition to The University of Texas at San Antonio

In order to better protect its students and faculty with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic, UTSA has decided to move all summer-semester classes and applicable services online. However, the university is still charging students for on-campus services that we are barred from accessing, such as:

- Recreation Center
- Student Union
- Athletics
- Transportation
- Teaching & Learning Center
- Student Services
- Medical Services (only accessible in-person to students in on-campus housing)
- Library Resources (only online databases are accessible)

Most of the staff who labor to make these services available have been laid off, so there is no clear reason why the university is still charging students the same rate. This absurd demand that we pay for services we cannot access comes at a time when many UTSA students are struggling under the socioeconomic toll of the COVID-19 pandemic; job loss, food insecurity, and housing complications are rampant among the student population.

We reject the university's efforts to take advantage of economically vulnerable students. We demand that UTSA follow the example of other universities and remove these extraneous charges - totaling at more than $500 per student - from each student's summer tuition, and that these fees be refunded to students who unknowingly paid for services they would never receive.
