As stated by the The University of Texas at Austin's Counseling and Mental Health Center website, "there is a $10 charge for UT students for each individual counseling appointment [and] a $15 charge for UT students for each individual psychiatric counseling appointment".
This establishes health as a privilege rather than a right while also disregarding the student population who might not be able to receive such service for health insurance is not accepted in this case. Mental health is prominent across campus as students are seen juggling work, academics, and so much more. The fact that mental health isn't prioritized on campus that brings nearly 50,000 students is a real problem.
The following institutions offer free mental health care services:
The University of Texas at Dallas
Southern Methodist University
Texas Tech University
Texas A&M University
