Arjun Naganathan started this petition to The University of Texas at Austin

The pandemic has uprooted everybody’s sense of normal, and few have been harder hit than students. In light of this, UT Austin approved a measure to let students pass/fail up to 3 courses this school year and receive credit for them.

But this measure has been limited to undergraduate courses ONLY. Meaning that graduate students have to take all of their classes for a grade. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING stopping the university from letting graduate students pass/fail their courses for credit - they let everybody do that for the Spring 2020 semester.

As graduate students, we ask the university this:

Do you think COVID-19 affects us any less? Do you think we haven’t had to deal with losing loved ones to this cruel pandemic? Do you think that our mental and physical well-being hasn’t been pushed to their limits? Do you think we haven’t struggled to make ends meet as we and our family members have lost our jobs? And do you think that all of these issues, exacerbated by unequal access to internet and technology, make for a level academic playing field?

We’re not asking for special treatment - just what every other student at the university has been offered. Please find it in your hearts to help us as we grapple with this pandemic; it helps us immensely more than it costs you.

Thank you.
