Let international students at UT Austin defer their admission to a later semester

In light of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, incoming international students at UT Austin (Fall 2020) are in a tough spot.
- Many are unable to obtain their visas since U.S. Embassies and Consulates in most countries are closed.
- Even with a visa, the prospects of international students actually arriving on campus for the Fall 2020 semester are bleak due to the health hazards posed by the rapid spread of COVID-19.
- Such students are encouraged to take remote-only classes for the Fall 2020 semester without any reduction in the tuition fees (which is significantly higher for out-of-state and international students).
Currently, undergraduate international students are not allowed to defer to a later term at UT Austin. Students and parents are concerned about their safety. Taking remote-only (online) classes for an entire semester not only deprives us of the freshman college experience, but also poses other challenges due to unsatisfactory access to the internet and time-zone differences. Moreover, we feel that the tuition fee that we have to pay is excessive since remote learning would deprive us of the resources on campus that we would have had access to otherwise.
Hence, we feel that UT Austin must allow international students to defer their admission to a later term - especially in light of the tumultuous circumstances that the world grapples with this year.
