DEMAND that the University of Tennessee Martin immediately REFORM SGA!
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,500!
On December 5, 2017, the University of Tennessee at Martin Student Government Association held a campus wide referendum that was held by Doug Marshall and myself after we collected 250 signatures. We wanted students to decide whether or not they wanted concealed carry on campus not SGA. Especially considering the fact that less than 400 people elected these students to their "leadership positions" in the last election.
55% of the students said that did not want concealed carry, 90% of the students said that they already feel safe on campus without concealed carry, and 59% of students said that they would not feel safer if students were able to carry guns on campus.
On December 7, 2017, the University of Tennessee at Martin Student Government Association voted 17-10 to pass a concealed carry resolution. Despite vocal opposition from the student body. Not listening to students has become a trend in the Student Government and this incident is not isolated. It is unfair to students to be told that SGA is our platform to make change when they clearly do not care about what the students think. Many members of SGA have used their positions to promote their own personal agenda and the students of this university will NOT stand for this any longer..
We the students, parents, faculty, and concerned citizens DEMAND that the University of Tennessee at Martin administration intervene in Student Government on behalf of the tuition paying students. And reform SGA so students can have actual representation.
