MECH 2650/60 Exam Complaint

An exam is meant to be an assessment of students' overall understanding of a subject, not of their detailed understanding of one specific part.
We believe the MECH 2650/60 exam to be unfair as 35% of the points were allocated to one unit only, with the rest of the material from semester 1 hardly being tested.
The exam’s focus on ONE particular topic which students felt was poorly taught has hindered their performance and will probably lead to low scores overall.
The lack of preparation material is also an important factor which contributed to the difficulty of the exam.
We cannot help but think that the University is doing a huge disservice to its students, having provided NO sample exam material that is reflective of the NEW exam structure, as well as having failed to communicate the drastic change in the exam structure to the entirety of the students taking the module.
As such, we ask for these factors to be considered in the marking of the exam, and for it to be adjusted in a way that does not jeopardise our grades .
