A D started this petition to The University of Hertfordshire and

This petition has been created specifically for the university of Hertfordshire as sources have shown that the government cannot refund students, only their place of study can decide that.

The university have stated:

“We will not be giving refunds or discounts for tuition fees. Our students are continuing with their studies and assessments via the online provision and our support services will continue to be accessed remotely during this period of disruption as a direct result of the pandemic. This decision has the full support of the Hertfordshire Students’ Union and is in line with advice for students issued by the Office for Students and the Department for Education.”

This is not fair, the University of Hertfordshire should support their students and not make them pay thousands of pounds for facilities they haven’t been using and the quality of education received by students has been poor, students cannot properly learn through online lectures with no practical sessions.

Many students have to work part time and even full time jobs to support their studies due to the financial pressure of University yet due to COVID-19, many of these students have lost their jobs and are unable to pay tuition fees.
Even with the student loan company providing students with financial help, that’s still money that has to be paid back and for nothing. Students will be going into debt for an education they didn’t receive.

Students have not been properly educated or had access to facilities of the university since March yet they are still expected to pay tuition fees. Students that rely heavily on the university resources to complete work are unable to access those facilities due to closure of the University thus affecting their education and standard of work. Lectures have been moved online via zoom sessions, which can only provide a certain amount of education as the practical side of learning cannot be taught through a screen.

Practical classes that are heavily relied upon in the creative arts, sports, engineering, science and many more schools within the university have all missed out on important practical work that is needed to help develop skills and prepare students for work after university.

Events that usually take place at the university have all been cancelled, such as the summer ball and the Forum performances. Students deserve more, we deserve a proper graduation after all our hard work, students who are in there final year will be leaving university abruptly, without seeing their friends, without celebrating properly, without getting themselves a job lined up for when university is finished. Students deserve a refund.

Students should not have to pay tuition fees when their facilities have been closed and the quality of learning has been dramatically reduced.
The university of Hertfordshire should refund students their tuition fees for the 2019/2020 academic year.
