Some of my best memories of u-high are from Mr. Jones' AP bio class. He loves science and he loves sharing it with his students. He made us all excited about biology. He was supportive and accepting of each students' individual needs and often stayed late to make sure we understood a difficult topic or to do dissections or experiments with interested students. Listen to the students, parents, alumni, and faculty who are telling you to reverse this unfounded, unilateral, preposterous decision.

Dan Bobo-Jones is an inspirational teacher and mentor, and a man of great character. Lab has yet again shot itself in the foot, not only with Dan's dismissal, but also in the autocratic way it handled this matter. Since its expansion, Lab has gone down a rabbit, and this latest fiasco suggests there is no turning back. As an alum, parent, former substitute teacher and volunteer at Lab, and current member of U of C's teaching staff, I can attest to the devolution of this once self-respecting and compassionate institution. May Dan and the many good teachers and staff who remain at Lab find the support they deserve, though sadly this seems increasingly less likely.

The decision to abruptly terminate Dan Jones is deeply disheartening. Dan is not only a knowledgeable and seasoned science educator; he is a compassionate individual. He supported his students and colleagues in so many ways, and in doing was integral to Lab’s unique community. A respected and much loved faculty member and teacher, he is not easily replaceable! Ultimately, this shortsighted and untimely decision has compromised the wellness and education of our students for the remainder of the year. And, of greatest concern, is what this action teaches our children.

Me. Jones is an excellent teacher- an my daughter loved him because he always encouraged her to learn, and for his compassion. Lab needs MORE teachers like him. Based on the information provided, his fringe makes NO sense.

The only reasons parents have been given for this firing seem completely disproportionate to the supposed offense. Based on what little information we do have, at no point was a student in imminent danger which is an understandable reason I would expect a teacher to be fired so unceremoniously and without preparation. Further, we did not learn any of the information we have from the administration. The children in Mr. Bobo-Jones’ class and those he supported through his very important work as sponsor of Spectrum were left without a teacher and trusted advisor or any information about how they would be able to finish their class this year or where to find support. A trusted advisor is hard for kids to find and the health and wellness of these children is surely being negatively impacted. They are worried and stressed about their future and who to trust. As a parent with younger children, I am concerned about the administration’s lack of transparency, communication and planning for this action. Mr. Bobo-Jones should be reinstated immediately to help the children through the end of the year at least and the administration should hold meetings with parents of all ages to discuss its errors in this action and what it will do going forward to avoid making these same mistakes again.

Dan Jones is a great teacher and was a wonderful colleague during my time at Lab. His excellent teaching inspired many students to love science, grow as students, and care about their school. His genuineness and being there when students needed a caring ear made him one of the few adults in the building they could trust. It is sad to see how quickly what was once one of the premier private schools in the United States can be damaged through poor leadership and indifference toward members of its community. I am mourning for Dan, his present and past students, and the Lab faculty who dedicate themselves to their students and preserving the excellence behind their diplomas.

Mr. Jones an amazing person, and I know I am not alone in thinking this. He is always there for his students, and is willing to help anyone who needs it.
