As you may be aware, there is an ongoing dispute with University management regarding their decision to sack IT staff and reduce IT support. This is during a period in which students and staff are more reliant than ever on a well-run IT system, as most courses are now taught online.

The staff Union (UCU) has asked for a halt to the compulsory redundancies, but the University Senior Management is pressing on with its plans regardless, with redundancies coming into force on Christmas Eve.

Staff at the university have decided to take strike action, to attempt to force senior management to stop the cuts to these essential jobs. Currently we are losing 5 days of education. If the University agrees to remove the threat of compulsory redundancies from IT staff, the strikes will be called off.

Students are struggling more than enough without the university taking away vital resources, and taking away jobs from essential staff.
