For UoBS to do a full enquiry into the handling of a sexual harassment and assult case
Why this petition matters
On the 22nd of April, the University of Birmingham School (UoBS) was made aware of an incident that happened after school that day. A 14 year old boy put his hand underneath two girls skirt than ran off. Many pupils, including the 2 victims, contacted the school to report the incident. The next day the school interviewed many pupils in his year group and many other girls opened up about previous sexual harassment incidents that the boy has done. The pastoral manager for the victims and the boys year group, Mrs Elliot was asked by one of the victims whether he will be put in a different class to her and she responded by saying 'We will do what's best for (the boy's name) and the form. This type of language is victim blaming as instead of comforting the victim she is protecting the boy. The schools investigation into this case concluded by temporally suspending the assaulter for a few days and moving the boy into another form with the least girls. Despite his actions, instead of telling him not to do it again, the school decided to warn all the boys not to touch and if they do, they will get permanently excluded. What is so unusual, is that instead of the school protecting girls in the school, they care so much about the assaulter that they are willing to give harsher punishments for people confronting him. One of the victim even asked Mrs Elliot to check CCTV, which is located around the school site, but she down right LIED and said that it can take up to 30 days to check which we all know is a lie. The assaulter still denies all the accusations made against him and claims that he lost his balance which led to him falling down and touched their knee which we know is a lie as he ran off after touching the second girl and saying 'I am going to finger you'. Also the boy was heard on a phone call with friends outside the school boasting about touching girls. The school has failed to protect young girls and provide emotional support to his victims and we demand that the school does an enquiry into the handling of this sexual harassment and assault case and an apology NOW!
