I don't have time to go in to all of the details on this. I work 2 jobs to get by, paying taxes that supplement our state and federal budgets. If our government is going to choose to allocate my tax dollars to the defense budget rather than education or infrastructure, then I would please ask them to use that money in an effort to defend our country. I do not want it used to incite further violence in a civil war that will have no outcome that benefits our country in the future.
If you're signing this petition, you probably already know the basics. The biggest point here is that we, as a nation, do not have the money, man power, or will (excluding the greedhead corporate giants, big wig beltway politicians, and all those folks who stand to benefit from instituting a military strike on behalf of the Syrian Rebels; those guys have all sorts of interest in bombing the (expletive) out of yet another country), to get ourselves involved in Syria's civil war.
Both Iraq and Afghanistan are all that we need to look at to defend this position. Neither one of them have been "quick and easy" strikes. CNN's article on the possibly impending military strike states "Factors weighing into the timing of any action include a desire to get it done before the president leaves for Russia next week for a summit with G8 allies...," according to an official. This is the link to that article: http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/27/politics/us-syria/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Does this administration, and the UN at large, really believe that we can implement a quick strike and then walk away? That just isn't how these things work, and anyone who has been paying even the slightest bit of attention over the past 10+ years knows that.
Let's stop this before it escalates further. Our government is already aiding the rebels in passive ways. Isn't that enough? Yes there is a possibility that chemical agents were used against the rebels; however, there is also the possiblity that the rebels got hold of said agents and used them on the government. How can anyone say for sure without being there?
We can't afford to justify yet another military intervention half way across the world. Our defense budget is just that, for defense. We won't be protecting ourselves from anything by dropping bombs on the Syrian government. I'm sure I've missed tons of points and there are a million more things that could be said here, but you know the facts here. If you don't, then I encourage you to do some reading (from multiple sources) and deciding what is right in your heart.
Please help to stop this pointless U.S. military intervention from even being considered. Thank you for your time.
