Ban the sale of military grade assault rifles at gun shows

As four young and concerned citizens who make up the future generation of our country, we have recently come to terms with the issue of gun shows in the United States, we recently found a poster for an annual Vermont gun show at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Vermont for March 17th and 18th. We were upset to learn of this show, especially with the timing being just over a month after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida, where seventeen students and faculty were shot dead with an AR-15, which is a military grade assault weapon, which should not be in the hands of ANY American, except military/law enforcement.

Because we were concerned, we contacted the man running the gun show to try to learn more. We found that assault rifles were being sold, and made up about 1% of the guns being sold at the show. Considering that we go to school daily, (middle school and high school) we were extremely uncomfortable with the idea that these guns were being sold at this show. We once again expressed our concerns with this situation, and received a rude and condescending response:

“Dear Four Concerned Citizens,

While you cupcakes hide behind your computer screens and whine, we will keep our guns and our rights.”

We were disheartened, unhappy, and truly disappointed in the adult to see our opinions taken so lightly, and we decided that we should start this petition to try to ban the sale of assault rifles at gun shows.

It isn't fair that we go to school daily without a guarantee we will come home safely, and we need to change that, one step at a time. That is why we ask for your support in helping make the United States a safer place for all.
