Allow Medical Assistants to be licenced
Resolving the current questions of scope of practice of the Medical Assistant is a current and highly debated topic in healthcare. Currently Medical Assistants operate under the licensure of a Medical Doctor; where their counter parts, Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses, practice under their own license. Medical Assistants participate in much of the same training in regards to Radiology, Pharmacology, Phlebotomy, EKG's, and both front and back office medical. The responsibilities of the Medical Assistant involve both regulatory standards and the health of the general public that should constitute all state governing body’s to require licensure for practice of these skills. I a requesting that The United States Boards of Nursing to permit the National Council Licensure Examination to add licensure for Medical Assistants so that Medical Assistants could hold the license of LMA or Licensed Medical Assistant and practice under as well as be responsible for their own actions under their own license. This will also assist in assuring the safety of care administered by Medical Assistants where by licensure errors in practice can be recorded and both physicians and the general public may have a tool to validate experience and performance of the Medical Assistant.
