- Women have been and will continue to be hesitant to report any sexual harassment, or sexual assault as long as people in a leadership role don’t take them seriously, or say insensitive and disrespectful comments. As an officer in the military she has an ethical standard to uphold and she failed to do that with her comments on Facebook, as well as shame woman in the military, and claiming women who sign up for the military should be okay with getting sexually harassed because your in a “good ole boys club”. This is what rape culture is, this is why women don’t report anything, and things get sweeper under the table. This is why women are sexually harassed and assaulted in every branch of the military. There needs to be change ASAP. Starting with severe repercussions for anyone who knows of harassment, and assault and says nothint it hides it. For higher ups who contribute to the issue whether it be by what they say or do. She needs to be reprimanded to the fullest. There needs to be support groups, readily available therapy, and more available counselors to women in the military, that they could confide in. There needs to be more investigations into reports being made. If someone is reported for sexual assault of any kind, or sexual harassment there needs to be an immediate removal of the person to ensure further assault or harassment doesn’t happen. Women need to be take more seriously, and have a place they feel comfortable to report without have repercussions.
