Enforce a zero-tolerance policy about human trafficking for UN peacekeepers

As a physician, I recognize the tremendous physical, psychological, and human rights violations involved in the international crime of human trafficking. I recently viewed The Whistleblower (http://www.thewhistleblower-movie.com), an excellent documentary about the real-life story of Kathyrn Bolkovac. Bolkovac, a former Nebraska police officer, left to serve as a United Nations (UN) peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia through private military contractor DynCorp. Her investigations in Bosnia revealed that fellow officers - with connections to the UN and U.S. State Department - were not only clients of a hideous sex trafficking ring, but were complicit in the criminal activities. Bolkovac risked her life by speaking out and won a lawsuit against DynCorp for being unfairly dismissed. However, to date the UN has no protocol in place to establish and enforce a true zero-tolerance policy about human trafficking among UN peacekeepers.
