In light of Oil companies involved in the North Sea announcing massively increased profits this year, and considering the huge increases in bills for power faced by UK citizens it is reasonable and should be a duty for UK Government to impose a windfall tax of 70% on profits for this year. ( This is still less than tax imposed by Norway).

The present level of tax is 40% which is the lowest in the world. The windfall tax at that level would enable the Government to pay consumers £500 each as a help toward bills according to Greenpeace. The charity also estimates that this would leave £1b which could be used for help in insulating low-income households homes.
