Amend the Constitution re: "Citizens United v.Federal Election Commission"

With the assertion that 'money equals free speech', The Supreme Court takes 'one man / one vote' and substitutes 'deep pockets / bigger voice'.

Thus, corporations can use unlimited funds to twist the ear of cash-strapped politicians; write legislation favoring their bottom line over society at large, the environment, health and general well-being, while 99% of voters get a form letter from their representatives staff with vague, pandering rhetoric.

Endowed with the rights of 'personhood' but exempted from the responsibilities of citizenship.

Join Senators: Tom Udall, Michael Bennett, Tom Harkin, Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Jeff Merkeley

and Representatives: Andre Carson, Yvette Clarke, John Conyers, Keith Ellison, Bob Filner, Alan Grayson, Raul Grijalva, John Hall, Martin Heinrich, Maurice Hinchey, Mazie Hirono, Jesse Jackson, Barbara Lee, Carolyn Maloney, Edward Markey, Jim McGovern, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Chellie Pingree, Nick Rahall, Tim Ryan, Louise McIntosh Slaughter, Betty Sutton, Peter Welch, Ted Deutch -

to lobby their colleagues on behalf on the 99%.

On January 21, 2010, with it's ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, The Supreme Court not only reaffirmed that corporations are people,

but that corporations may spend an unlimited amount of money to influence elections. This ruling threatens the most basic fundamentals of democracy.

We the 99%, propose the need for a constitutional amendment to undo the Supreme Court’s ruling.

With the assertion that 'money equals free speech', The Supreme Court takes 'one man / one vote' and substitutes 'deep pockets / bigger voice'.

So respectively, we urge all members of Congress to consider this with the deepest gravity and immediacy.
