Value added tax (VAT) increases on fuel when wholesale prices increase. 
We are seeing unprecedented increases in petrol, gas and electricity costs which means VAT will increase on our purchases.
VAT is charged at 20% on top of the combined fuel cost and fuel duty.

That means that as wholesale prices climb, the amount we pay in VAT also goes up, pushing the price up even further.

According to the latest RAC figures, with wholesale prices and fuel duty amounting to 126.92p per litre, VAT adds a further 25.28p to the cost.

Remember those ‘latest RAC figures’ were issued when petrol was 126.92p per litre and we are now paying over 151.p per litre! 

This petition lobbies the government to freeze all VAT on fuel so end users are not burdened with more taxes!
