Improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander midwifery care in the Tweed Heads Region

Currently, in the Tweed area, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their babies don't have the option of accessing an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander midwife throughout their pregnancies.

The Tweed Hospital can appoint an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander midwife and provide the necessary facilities to cater to the needs of these women and their babies.

With 9% of births at Tweed Hospital identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, culture specific care is essential to the ongoing health and well being of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sisters and their babies.
