Encourage Productive Usage of City Funds
Encourage Productive Usage of City Funds
Why this petition matters
Recently The Town of Red Springs has installed numerous speed humps in this rural area. These construction hazards are placed predominantly in urban areas. We understand the need to control traffic but this method chosen to use is irresponsible. The speed humps are massive, not bumps, humps. This is a small town so to put speed humps on every road in this rural area makes no sense. What if there is an emergency, the EMS and first responders would have to almost come to a complete stop every 10th of a mile to cross these humps. Propose the emergency is life threatening, you have tied these emergency responders duties. Their arrival time will be made longer due to no way around passing these humps but to cross them.
History shows that this town proves to be negligent with dispersing city funds. We have no youth center for our youth, some of the roads the humps are on are broken roads, there are numerous of buildings vacant that could be allocated for some type of resource in the community as a whole. Currently the town is seeking to retain a lawyer to collect $900,000 in back taxes, the funding used for these humps could have been applied here. To offer training and employment to residents to resolve the tax issues, instead of adding lawyer fees to debt.
Plenty of other projects could have easily progressed our town. These humps are taking stone age steps backwards. If the town officials and commissioners could provide a legitimate reason for installing so many humps, such short distance apart, in predominantly urban areas, the citizens could have some understanding. At this point we are shame, embarrassed, and confuse by the use of these funds.
Also if these funds where provided by some type of public safety grant or something of that nature, we have parks with basketball goals with no lighting. We have areas where children play often and there are no "Children at play" signs. Help us understand, where in civilization would these humps, placed the distance apart that they are, only in urban areas, will help promote productivity in our town?
Few numbers for support $1,700 per hump, there are at least 12 humps which equals some where around $20,000 just to install the humps. Not including labor. Repairs to cars damaged by these humps $250-$1,000. Only placed in urban, poverty stricken areas, priceless.
This petition is to show our town officials and leaders we as citizens are not afraid to fight back for the progression of our town.
