Alice Paradis started this petition to Alexander Brown (Chair of the TDSB Board of Trsutees) and

Today, (June 4th) the TDSB announced it will not be following provincial guidelines and holding in-person graduations for grade 12 students. They cite laziness in not wanting to plan another graduation after planning a virtual one. Instead of doing everything in their power to help their students, the TDSB is taking the easy route.

This has been one of the hardest years of education for most students. On top of surviving a global crisis, we went through gruelling quadmesters and still came out with diplomas and post-secondary plans. Virtual graduation will not honour the hard work put in by seniors this year. We do not deserve to finish a 12-year education over zoom, especially when an in-person option is available.

With rising rates of mental illnesses in young people, we need something to look forward to, to celebrate ourselves and the work we have done. Graduations are when a community comes together to honour a class and wish them well in adulthood, which cannot be done virtually. It is unfair to force us into subpar graduation because our superintendents don't want to plan another graduation.

The class of 2021 has put up with enough, we deserve some recognition for it. We, the undersigned, demand in-person graduation for grade 12 students.
