Concerned Veteran started this petition to The Texas State Legislature

Currently, Texas law is written allowing anyone with a "Disabled Veteran" (DV)(misnomer) license plate to park in an ADA marked handicapped parking place.  The only substantiation for the DV tag is a 50% rating from the VA.  Be aware, this does not have to have anything to do with mobility limitation - for example, cases of sleep apnea or PTSD can rate at 50%, but do not limit a person from walking a little further from a parking space at the mall, hospital, or other venue.  The Texas Law needs to be changed to require a Veteran to provide the same medical documentation that a non-Veteran requires to get a handicapped placard or plate.

Unfortunately, many Veterans who get the 50% rating and the DV tag feel the God given right to park in handicapped parking, severely limiting the parking available to those who REALLY need it.  This change (which some Texas lawmakers feel, inappropriately, is taking a benefit away from Veterans) would allow parking for Veterans and non-Veterans who truly need closer parking due to valid physical limitations.
