Proper sex education should be required in Texas high schools

Over 25% of Texas high schools do not provide any form of sex education, while nearly 60% of them just provide abstinence-only sex education. Empirical evidence across the nation finds that states requiring thorough (not just abstinence-only) sex education consistently have lower rates of teen pregnancy. The Texas Education Agency's failure to require schools to give teens the information they need about STDs, forms of birth control, and smart sex has taken its toll. Currently, Texas ranks fifth highest in the country in teen birth rates. Sign this petition if you would like the Texas Education Agency to require proper sex education in high schools; young Texans deserve better.
