Sixteen-year-old Cyntoia Brown's sexual encounters had included many rapes, assaults during or before sex, and times when she was under the influence of drugs. Brown had a physically and sexually abusive pimp named "Kutthroat", who brandished guns at her and forced her into prostitution. Brown was picked up by a 43-year-old real estate agent, Johnny Allen and taken to his house on August 6, 2004. Brown stated that for several weeks leading up to that day, she had been repeatedly raped and was on drugs. When she arrived at Allen's house, she found it was full of guns. Brown said that she was afraid that she would be shot, which led her to shoot and kill Allen. Sixteen-year-old Cyntoia Brown was then arrested for Allen's murder.
Brown was sentenced to 51 years to life for first degree murder. The prosecutor of the case had argued for life without parole by stating the importance of ensuring that dangerous and violent people are imprisoned, regardless of the circumstances that may have arisen to make them violent. Brown is serving her sentence at the Tennessee Prison for Women.
In Tennessee, 183 people are serving life sentences for crimes committed when they were teens.
Among those is Cyntoia Brown, who was convicted of killing a man in 2004, when she was 16.
A Supreme Court ruling on mandatory review of life sentences for juveniles has had no impact on Tennessee.
That's because state law already includes a mandatory review after 51 years, a period advocates call "a virtual life sentence."
Brown has never denied her crime. She has said that she was forced into prostitution by a violent boyfriend. She believed the man who picked her up was reaching for his gun when she killed him.

Misguided and lost children is an epidemic that we as adults should be responsible for; not the child. Although murder was committed in this case; adults have committed murder and received a lesser than a life sentence. This woman (who is now 25) was only a child at 16 years of age at the time of the incident when her 42 year old victim (a grown man who had lived his life) solicited sex with this child; He had the upper-hand being the adult and should have made the decision to help her seek a better way instead of co-signing on her destruction by soliciting sex. She received life in prison for her victims murder. As of today; she has already served 9 years in prison.
YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS HORRIBLY WRONG WHEN THE SYSTEM ENABLES THESE RAPISTS AND THE VICTIM IS THROWN AWAY FOR LIFE.
