Metal Detectors in Sycamore Schools

The security of Sycamore Schools could save lives as it is now but we can do more.I'm 17 and I'm a junior in high school. I get up every morning, brush my teeth, eat breakfast, and leave for school. I have the same morning routine as most other kids my age and I can speak for all of us when I say its not fun. But recently going to school can be scary too. I like school though.. I have plenty of reasons to like it and I want it to stay that way. The thing that keeps me thinking is that those kids in Flordia most likely felt the same as me. The worst thing I think will happen at school is me embarrassing myself. And once again, those kids were the same way. Those kids were high schoolers who had their lives cut short at the same place they spent most of their days at. Now their parents are planning their funerals. It's become NORMAL recently. Think about that. I can't imagine having to bury my child. But the chance of me having to seem to be increasing by the minute because nothing is done about these shooting besides some news coverage and a social media post showing sympathy. Then after a week we forget it even happened. I'm just rambling on here so let me get to the point. The least we can do to keep schools safe is something people talk about all the time. Yes we have school officers like Paul Payne who is an amazing man that would give you the shirt off of his back but at the end of the day, can one person stop an enraged gunman? I'm sure OPP could. I trust him, but why can't we just avoid the chance of it happening in the first place? I feel like metal detectors are the first step to a safer school. It seems like a hassle but it would make a lot of us feel better even if its a pain. The seconds it takes to walk through it a day vs a gunman walking into the school and firing seems like a small sacrifice for the chance to safe lives. So as a student I feel the best thing I could do is to talk about it since no one else seems to want to. If you could take 10 seconds to sign this online petition it could litteraly save lives. I know no one thinks it will happen here but all it takes in one person to pull a trigger. Thanks for even reading this, I know it's all over the place but I'm writing what I'm thinking. Stay safe everybody.
