My Godson is James Ray Little III and was talked into committing a robbery in which someone was killed. Yes, he was there and just as culpable as anyone else. He knew right from wrong and he is paying for his crime. The crime was committed in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was 19 years old and had a public defender more interested in his golf games with the prosecutor than defending him. Being African-American did not help his case.

He was sentenced to death. The people who were with him? They did not even go to the holding cells. They said it was all James so they gave statements and left that night. Is this justice?

James did deserve to spend time in prison. Yes. But why are so many young black men being sentenced to death? Is there another way to fix this problem? I talk to James everyday. He wants to learn and help his family. He has not been able to hug his family in 15 years.

I am asking for everyone to get behind this young man and consider the fact that yes he committed a crime but he was over sentenced. The prosecutor was looking for a death penalty case and took this one as it. James did not have adequate representation and does not have adequate representation for his current appeals.

Please find it in your hearts to help this young man have a second chance at life.

Please help James Ray Little.
