Gabriel Fernandez was an 8 year-old boy from Palmdale California who was killed by his mother Pearl Fernandez and her boyfriend Isauro Aguirre during his short 8 month stay with them after they received custody. During these 8 months, social workers Stefanie Rodriguez and Patricia Clement were assigned to Gabriel and their supervisors were Kevin Boom and Gregory Merritt. Gabriel was known at school for ALWAYS having visible bruises and cuts/scrapes all over his body due to the beatings he was constantly getting at home. His social workers never bothered to do further investigating and have even noted on their visits that Gabriel had injuries. When Gabriel was taken to the hospital after his final beating that led to his death, they found cat liter in his stomach, fractured bones, cuts all over the body all of which had been healing for different time periods, BB gun pellets in his lungs, and more. How could this extreme abuse go "unnoticed" by his social workers who were supposed to take care of him? On Thursday, July 16th, 2020, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge DISMISSED all charges against social workers and their supervisors. They failed Gabriel when he was alive and continue to do so after his death. We must DEMAND JUSTICE FOR GABRIEL FERNANDEZ by signing this petition for LA County Superior Court Judge to recharge the social workers and their supervisors for allowing this tragedy happen. If they don't face consequences, imagine how many more social workers will continue to be neglectful at the jobs they are being paid to do.
