Recently our teacher integrated a seating plan into our lessons. To my knowledge, no single person likes this seating plan or prefers it in any way. The seating plan has moved friends from friends and has forced them to sit with people they aren't comfortable talking to, working with or in general wouldn't prefer to study next to them.

The old, no seating plan class allowed students to sit next to friends and encouraged studying since it was more fun and less strict. People were motivated to study since without the inclusion of a seating plan there were fewer restrictions and more freedom. Students could sit next to people they felt like would enhance their learning and could sit where they could focus best, the ability to do this has been removed due to the seating plan.

On the other hand, the seating plan also puts people away from friends so they might talk and disrupt the class which might enhance learning, but it also removes the ability to confer with friends and make sure you have the perfect answer. With the seating plan, people won't be as motivated to work since their mood might be down because they were really hoping to talk to friends whilst studying for a better and fun time.

Obviously there are downfalls to not having a seating plan, the likes of repetitive talking, people not focusing, people annoying other friends next to them and disrupting their learning; however, there is a fix. If the teacher finds that a student is continuously disrupting the class, they can move that person to the front table and/or they can permanently move them away from their friends to the extra table.

In conclusion, the seating really is annoying and doesn't really do much to enchance learning so please, remove the seating plan!
