Aditya Chheda started this petition to The Students and Teachers of India and

The students of ICSE board 9-10 across India have the book Merchant of Venice by Sir William Shakespeare for study in English Literature, leaving aside 10 short stories and 10 poems. The syllabus is clearly HUGE, but students manage to get it done.  What we propose is that Merchant Of Venice, with all respect, should be removed from the syllabus because face it : students find it boring. So what we suggest to be used in place of M.O.V is - A Game Of Thrones by George R. R. Martin, for numerous reasons :-

First of all, it's trending.

Second of all, it does have lessons and teaches moral values.

Third, it has the following themes - Justice, Betrayal, Power, Morality and honour, Family, Maturity, Vengeance and Love. All the themes of M.O.V are present, in addition to other important themes like morality.

Also, students find it interesting so they will try their best to learn actively. (Trust us, we conducted a survey)

For those who will protest that it has inappropriate content for students, didn't M.O.V have it too? Plus, it can be scrubbed from the book and a censored book and smart class can be published. And if the students are in the 10th grade already, you shouldn't really be worried about your kid learning something he already knows.

We hope this doesn't backfire.
