Ban the sale of fireworks in Guernsey
Why this petition matters
We are proposing a change in the law to prohibit the sale of fireworks to the general public. We do so due to the unnecessary stress placed on the thousands of dogs, horses, cattle and other animals/livestock and the potentially life threatening environment it creates when dealing with larger animals under extreme stress caused by the explosion of fireworks.
Each year thousands of fireworks are exploded over Guernsey. This activity is not confined to November the fifth but also in the weeks before and after. Pet owners and livestock owners are faced with multiple nights of worry and stress as their animals are subjected to the same. Whilst responsible owners take measures to mitigate exposure of fireworks, no method is 100% effective. Also, the spent casings of some firework products litter the land which causes a further concern to land owners, and potential hazard to grazing livestock.
We propose an outright ban on fireworks to the general public and instead to create limited, licensed events on the coast of Guernsey.
