Boone Doughboy started this petition to The State of West Virginia

Due to a variety of factors, primarily funding sources, taxes, police and other city services, it would greatly benefit the citizens of both Madison and Danville to combine into one city. Both the City of Madison and the Town of Danville have a long and rich history in southern West Virginia. Because of the economic situation in the southern coal fields of West Virginia, it has become evident that two similar towns in such close proximity is a burden on the citizens of both communities. By combining resources, expenses could be greatly reduced. This issue has been presented at several points in the past, however, during those instances, the economy in our area was vastly improved compared to today. With the decline in the coal industry, the loss of coal severance tax money to the county and municipalities, sharing resources is becoming more and more evident as time goes by. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the populations of both villages to combine and further progress into the future.
