September 9 has been designated as “Falsely Accused Day”, https://falselyaccusedday.org/

The day will be marked by events held in England,  United States, Argentina, Australia, and elsewhere.

False accusations occur in bitter disputes over custody when relationships break down and can take the form of charges of Domestic Violence or of  Child Abuse.

They can have serious consequences for the child coerced to make false abuse allegations against the father or the mother as well as for the accused parent.

A number of cases have occurred in Ireland in recent years of false accusations of rape or sexual assault. These hardly ever result in a custodial sentence. When police suspect that an accusation is false it is rarely followed up.  This only encourages false accusations.

A YouGov survey in the US reveals that 8% of Americans report being falsely accused of abuse, 11% of men and 6% of women http://www.prosecutorintegrity.org/pr/survey-over-20-million-have-been-falsely-accused-of-abuse/

The purpose of this petition is to call on the state to take a more active role, to investigate suspected false accusations and to impose realistic sentences if proven.
