As a student of Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School, i am getting more and more concerned for my safety as a student at WAACS each passing day. We as a school do not have many (if any at all) practiced safety protocols when it comes to things such as intruders or people with weapons inside the school. Although we have a great security guard already I genuinely do not believe that is enough to guarantee our safety as a whole. I have some ideas of things we can do to help take steps towards our safety at school in the future. Those ideas are listed below and are subject to change. 

1. Get more security guards. I think with so many students in the school we should have a more accurate number of guards to attend to those students.

2. Put locks on the doors. Most of the doors don't lock and if they do its almost all from the outside.

3. Either implement bag checks or metal detection upon entering. Students can bring anything into the building and if one or the other of these solutions was put into place at the school it would automatically make being there more secure.

I believe if any of these ideas were acted on it would make everyone feel much more comfortable for many years to come. I don't believe the school should be completely locked down because its also nice to feel secure but not caged in. The students/families and faculty of WAACS should also be more informed on these important topics as it would make the families more comfortable.
