Pass The Global Press Freedom Act
The Global Press Freedom Act would create an Ambassador-at-Large position in the U.S State Department for the purpose of press freedom and training Foreign Service Officers on how to help promote media independence and protect foreign journalists. Journalists should not have to put their life on the line in order to inform the people. According to Freedom House 30% of countries in the world do not have a free press. Journalists are either censored, unfairly arrested, or have their rights violated. These countries also limit what the people of the country can view. This creates a huge problem because the press is the only organization that can truly hold government accountable. Freedom of the press is enshrined in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and has been crucial in sustaining our republic since its creation.
