Lincoln Bypass Action Group @LBActiongroup started this petition to The Secretary of State for Transport (HM Government)

The delays in the Lincoln Eastern Bypass have gone on for too long. This road has been planned for over decades and it has gone through a number of planning processes, consultations and a public inquiry. And yet another inquiry has been called. These delays are holding back the development of our City. They are damaging our local businesses and preventing growth of our regional economy. Our working days are lengthened as we are forced to sit in endless queues of traffic. These queues, right through the centre of our beautiful city, create damaging pollution which is destroying our historic buildings and shortening the lives of its residents.

Until now the public voice of those objecting to the current Bypass plans has been the only one heard. The only problem found by the last independent inspector related to the non motorised user bridge. These problems have been rectified. The objectors’ case for a road bridge at Hawthorn Road was rejected last time by the independent inspector. Contrary to some claims, the current plans will not cut off local villages as there will be a junction for Hawthorn Road onto the Bypass. This will provide better direct access for village residents into central and south Lincoln and will, quite rightly, encourage use of the Bypass.

The addition of a road bridge would require additional planning and public consultations, delaying the bypass by at least another 2 years, costings us, the tax payers, more money. This further lengthy delay must be avoided.

Our City desperately needs this Bypass and we urge you to approve the current plans and Land Orders, and give us this long awaited Bypass.
