The Scottish Recovery Consortium believes that recovery from addiction is not only possible but real and expanding across Scotland. Greater numbers of people, formerly trapped in substance misuse, are now experiencing meaningful and purposeful lives in recovery. Mutual Aid fellowships and other recovery self help organisations have increased in number and are spreading across Scotland. Addiction treatment providers are steadily building more recovery pathways that connect people in treatment with local self help and mutual aid groups that support individual recovery in the community. People in recovery are increasingly involved in ‘giving something back’ to the communities and families that have suffered from the effects of addiction.
In recognition of this statement we call on individuals in recovery, their families, friends and supporters, treatment providers, community organisations and leaders in public office to join us in declaring the 23rd of March 2013 as a National Day of Recovery Celebration in Scotland.
