The SFA must admit their failings and remove Stewart Regan as Chief Executive

We call for the resignation or dismissal of Stewart Regan from the Scottish Football Association. The failure to appoint Michael O’Neill as manager of the Scotland Men’s National Team despite a drawn out and very public pursuit is just the latest example of his disastrous tenure. The length of the process despite apparently identifying O’Neill as the preferred candidate has seen other potential candidates becoming unavailable. The offer of less money and a shorter contract than on offer from his current employer and home nation call the judgement of the SFA and their commitment to appointing the right manager into serious question. Regan’s failings are not limited to the pursuit of O’Neill however. The persistent failure of the national team to reach tournaments starts at the top. The SFA’s pricing structure for national team games has driven away loyal fans, charging a minimum of £30 for home matches against teams like Lithuania (a side ranked outside the top 100 in the world at the time, and £10 more than a more successful Wales team charged for equivalent games). The attempt to bully SPFL clubs over the Rangers affair questions his commitment to the integrity of the sport and his prediction that their placement in the lowest league would be ‘armageddon’ for Scottish football pose serious questions about his judgement. The botched appointment of Brian McClair as performance director and the ongoing controversy surrounding Project Brave are just further examples but by no means the only ones. Regan’s appointment itself and his role in the search for a manager need to be explained, how a man with a background in brewing and cricket came to be running the game in this country and to be in charge of the appointment of a manager is ridiculous. Stewart Regan and the SFA as a whole need to acknowledge the deep dissatisfaction of fans across the country with their performance. #ReganOut
