END SIG FIGS
Simply put, sig figs are not very good. They are annoying to deal with. A lot of the rules involving them feel arbitrary. The accuracy of something shouldn't depend on the number of digits of something... that's just stupid. The more digits there are, the more precise it is, so arbitrarily cutting it off somewhere just doesn't work at all. Furthermore, my chemistry teacher said that real chemists don't even use them. So they're not even teaching us information we'll use in real life, even if we pick that career path. Even on the AP Chemistry exam they only matter on one question. They're only graded on one of the Free Response Questions. So why does it matter on every single question on every single test?
Furthermore, they cause students a great deal of stress. Imagine this: you were having a good day. And then you get a test back and your teacher took off points because you forgot sig figs. And then you feel miserable and can't sleep because it had an absurdly high amount of weight. Is that really what you want to do to us? Is that really how the poor kids deserve to be treated after they try their hardest studying for school in general?
Overall, removing sig figs is an essential step towards supporting students in their learning journies and maintaining mental health. Thank you for your support.
