Make iReady Optional Not Mandatory

Dear Palm Beach County School Board, Dr. Fennoy, and all District administrative employees:
We, the parents and individuals who have signed this petition, request that iReady be an optional, not mandatory, part of the K-5 curriculum. We also request that the decision to use it be made first by teachers and second by parents.
Forcing kindergartners and elementary-age children to spend 90 minutes per week on an age-inappropriate computer program that distracts from traditional learning is harming, not helping, many students.
We want teachers to be able to do what they have been trained to do: teach our children face-to-face and use their professional judgment for how best to teach them.
We want our children to be taught by professionals who can address their questions and find alternative ways to teach the material based on the specific issues each child may have with learning.
It is for these reasons that we submit this petition for iReady to be an optional program instead of mandatory in the K-5 curriculum. We believe decisions to use it should be made on a classroom-by-classroom and a case-by-case basis.
