Sarah Zahn started this petition to The School Board of the Elizabethtown Area School District

We the undersigned ask the school board of the Elizabethtown Area School District to defer the transition of the 3rd grade and 6th grade to at least the 2022/2023 school year.

As the pandemic continues to require us to adapt to the unexpected, we should pause on this reorganization of our schools.

We the undersigned believe that deferring the move will allow the administration and teachers to put their energy into providing for their students' educational and socio-emotional needs as the pandemic continues.

The district will save money on moving expenses, teacher inservice training and pilot programs for shifting the schools, as well as the added transportation needs of busing more children.

The stability and normalcy we seek will come from the 3rd and 6th grade staying in their current schools, not from moving them and then asking them to adapt.

This move was planned pre-pandemic, and now everything has changed. We ask the board to see the wisdom in pausing on this transition, even though the plans are already in motion.

We are concerned that moving forward will cause the administration to be stretched too thin by trying to make this reorganization happen when so many things remain uncertain.

This deferral must happen so that the school district, students and teachers can put their efforts into managing the COVID-19 mitigation efforts and caring for the health and well-being of their students, instead of spending time, money and energy preparing for a massive reorganization of the district after a very change-heavy year.
