Cleveland High School’s dress code is getting stricter every year. Girl’s can’t wear clothing that makes them feel comfortable because is “distracting and inappropriate”. A student has never been told by a peer to “cover up” or that their choice of clothing is disrupting their learning. The only people finding it a distraction are the adults in the school. An adult who is disturbed by a girls thigh, shoulder, stomach etc. should not be allowed near student’s.

Our natural existence is NOT a distraction and it definitely is not something we should be ashamed of. The staff in the school make a big deal out of SKIN, they disrupt our learning time by interrupting class, making us late, or ridiculing us by forcing us to dress out into see through or used clothing. If we refuse to change or even so much as ask for answers we ar sent to ISS making us miss an entire day of work, and having us fall behind on all our class work for things like hair, skin, tattoos, piercings, and clothing. We’re not showing “private areas”, showing up “half naked”, or dressed like “hookers”, we’re dressed like teens. Minors. Who’s bodies don’t need to be sexualized at such a young age.

It’s inappropriate for schools like CHS to prioritize the male student bodies education over the female, especially when so many women make up the administration and staff.
During school staff nitpicks everything students wear. Yet sports uniforms break all the rules and none of them face consequences. Skirts and shorts don’t meet finger tip length requirements. Shoulders are exposed. Midriffs are exposed. But modest values apply when it’s 100 degrees outside.
