In support of a petition requesting that the Salvation Army take a position of neutrality on sexual conduct between consenting adults regardless of sexual orientation.
The Salvation Army website as of November, 27, 2012 had language that we would like to see eliminated. Language such as, "same-sex relationships which are genitally expressed are unacceptable according to the teaching of Scripture" and "the Army regards the origins of a homosexual orientation as a mystery and does not regard a homosexual disposition as blameworthy in itself or rectifiable at will. Nevertheless, while we are not responsible for what we are, we are accountable for what we do; and homosexual conduct, like heterosexual conduct, is controllable and may be morally evaluated therefore in the light of scriptural teaching."
This and much more was considered its "policy" on homosexuality. We believe that the Salvation Army should adopt a position of neutrality on sexual conduct between consenting adults regardless of sexual orientation because they are just that, consenting adults and this concerns their own private their sexual conduct. Recently Salvation Army has deleted or put "under review" all positions on this issue.
We respectfully request that when the Salvation Army releases a newly revised position that it does not include specific sexual references and is a position of neutrality.
