Too many seriously mentally ill or even only mildly depressed people are being given psychiatric drugs by medical professionals, psychiatrists or GP's without being made aware they are addictive, have severe side effects that worsen their conditions, see akathisia, as an example, and actually cause mental illness if not withdrawn from slowly and with expert guidance.Too often the medical personnel lie about whether these drugs are addictive or not, do not admit to the patient they have caused side effects even when they are aware this is the case.Too often it is claimed effects of the drug are mental illness.Too often the right to refuse drugs is taken away.In many cases there is no option to have a second opinion or be provided with a psychiatrist who is not covering up on behalf of the pharmacutical industry the detrimental effects to health of these drugs.Too often these effects include, kidney, heart and liver damage. There is no provision of experts like Dr David Healy(see davidhealy.org), an emminent psychiatrist, well aware of the dangers of these drugs ,in the NHS as a right and we demand this.

With 1 in 4 people diagnosed with a mental illness every day and with our children being more and more prescribed these drugs at a younger age it is time the suffering and harm caused by these drugs were recognised and prevented and legislation devised to protect our rights and ensure our safety as far as these medicines are concerned.. We want enshrined in law that  the choice be given to the sufferer whether to take them in the first place, which exists but not always in practice and the right to an NHS expert to safely guide patients through the withdrawal process.

It is vital enough people in sufficient numbers support this petition to save lives and prevent unnecessary suffering and abuse to mentally ill sufferers who also demand alternatve treatments to drugs but whose voices are drowned out by certain members of the psychiatric profession daily.
