We are begging you as citizens of Ontario and many of us with family in Long Term Care Homes to declare Ontario to be in an Emergency situation and request the military to intervene in each LTC home that has a Covid outbreak as soon as possible.

I am sure you are aware of the Roberta Place LTC home in Barrie, Ontario who has to date 60 deaths due to the new variant Covid as well as the climbing cases in all LTC at the moment. It is our information Ontario now has more deaths due to Covid in LTC in the world.

We know this is Provincial government jurisdiction, however our Provincial government only seems interested in protecting the owners of these LTC’s via newly enacted laws protecting them from lawsuits from the very families who are experiencing these deaths. It is also our information that the Provincial government is spending $42 M to provide these LTC’s with security guards. It is our understanding from Peter Weltman, Chief Financial Officer that up to Nov 2020 Ontario had $12B in Covid relief money given to them by the federal government and as of today, Feb 1, 2020 there is $6.4 B left and none has been spent on LTC, the healthcare workers or the elderly. The healthcare workers are understaffed, overworked and suffering themselves from exposure to Covid and immense stress.

We have laws protecting animals from abuse and yet our elderly, at the most vulnerable time of their lives, after a lifetime of working, raising families and contributing to this country, along with our healthcare workers and as a result, the families of these people are being subjected to unnecessary abuse. This is not how a civilized society is supposed to treat it’s most vulnerable citizens. In the name of decency this cannot continue, the elderly in our province are in need of humanitarian aid.

A public inquiry is needed and resulting charges of criminal neglect, neglect, negligence and anything else that may apply to all involved including the members of the Provincial government who are allowing this to happen.
